Following our June 2025 announcement, we have set aside funding to extend the end-of-life of PubPub Legacy for eighteen months, until December 31, 2026. After this date, Communities on Legacy will be openly archived, meaning they will be readable and discoverable, but not editable. Community admins will have the ability to export their data using our Community Export Tool in order to archive their data elsewhere, or migrate to a different platform. Admins can choose to do this at any time, even after December 31, 2026. 

We do not recommend self-hosting PubPub Legacy. Although PubPub Legacy is open source, it has been built over the years with a number of dependencies that make it difficult to self-host. Many individuals and groups who have opted to use PubPub Legacy have done so, at least in part, because of how it empowered publications with little or no-technical team to publish openly. Self-hosting PubPub Legacy would require a great deal of technical support and is likely not an option for most groups.
